Conflits

CPR network
The CPR Network is an informal network of donor countries and partner UN Agencies dealing with the complex issues of conflict management. It arose out of an interest by DAC members of the Conflict, Peace and Development Cooperation Task Force to continue the process of sharing knowledge and experience in field operations that could serve as a guide to those working in conflict prevention and post-conflict reconstruction (CPR). A number of tools and products have resulted from the Network, including the CPR Network web portal, the Compendium of Operational Tools, joint testing of Peace and Conflict Impact Assessment tools, a common early warning-early response methodology, and joint field missions and projects.

IISD Institut International du développement durable
IISD believes that the mismanagement of our natural resources lies at the heart of many conflicts and disaster vulnerability. Sustainable development is impossible without security. Yet since the end of the Cold War, violent conflict has killed or displaced millions of people. Meanwhile, the frequency and toll of natural disasters is on the rise, driven in part by an unpredictable and changing global climate. It is clear that a better understanding of the links between environmental change and human security is vital for effective peace-building and post-conflict reconstruction. Conflict-sensitive conservation could both protect biodiversity and contribute to peace-building. Better environmental management may help reduce community vulnerability to floods and droughts. IISD’s work seeks to understand these links and provide practical advice on how careful management of our environment and our resources can contribute to conflict avoidance and disaster resilience.

Trudeau Centre
The Environmental Security Database contains information on books, journal articles, papers, and newspaper clippings relating to the study of the links between environmental stress and violent conflict in developing countries. Much of the material was gathered over the course of several international research projects coordinated by the Peace and Conflict Studies Program at the University of Toronto. Jane Willms, who has worked in the areas of environment and development since 1983, began assembling the library in 1991. The Database includes around 20 000 items, with information from related fields such as ecological sciences, demography, development studies, economics, political science, conflict studies, anthropology, and regional studies. All of the material cited in the Database is housed at University College, University of Toronto, within the Peace and Conflict Studies program.
